Volusion Review: Is Volusion a scam or legit?
Volusion website: www.volusion.com
Kevin Sproles is the founder and Clay Olivier is CEO of Volusion. There has been a lot of interest in Volusion since its’ founding in 1999. I am also pretty sure a lot of people want to know: Is Volusion a scam or is it legit. I took the opportunity to sign up for the 14 day free trial offer extended to interested parties. My main interest was: Does Volusion provide products for sale or must I sell my own? Let me begin with an overview on their program.
First and foremost this company offers a 14 day free trial and it is a good thing they do. Provided is a vast array of information in six different categories:
- Social and mobile
5 different plans are available, eighty two different templates are offered for free, three hundred seventeen premium templates, four different ecommerce web design custom packages, 25 types of custom page design. All boiling down to lots and lots of pertinent information. They do not provide you with products to sell.
Pros vs. cons
- Provide free templates
- 5 different hosting packages
- Is an accredited registrar providing domain names at a comparable rate
- PCI (Payment card industry) certified
- Offers a 14 day free trial (No credit card required until you sign up for a plan)
- No transaction fees
- Assorted marketing tools depending on your hosting plan
- Affordable SSL certificate plans
- No selling is allowed during the free trial period
- The type of support received is dependent upon the hosting plan you purchase
- Not for affiliate marketers
- Most of the services needed or required acquired with a fee and an upgrade to your plan
- Amount of products to be sold is limited by your hosting plan
- There is a large quantity of info available and until you become familiar with the site navigating might be difficult
Volusion Tools and Training
Volusion has an array of 35 video tutorials in seven different categories, a knowledge base with 8 categories each covering several topics. Hands on training is not available.
The majority of Volusions support is from a knowledge base which is similar to a faq (frequently asked questions) In fact they preface it with a statement saying that the experts that would be called for support will generally answer all questions based on this secti0n. Also included is a support ticket system, a number for phone support and a live chat system (what they call live) Both times I visited nobody was available to answer live.
How much will it cost me?
It all depends upon the level of hosting you decide upon. Also an SSL certificate is required.( What is a SSl certificate? ) The lowest plan for that is $79 dollars per year all the way up to $995 per year. Then there is the credit card processing plan which is free except for a 2.17% transaction fee. A domain name is required, add on another 11.99 a year. Most of the marketing tools offered come with a set up fee and a management fee. None of these guarantee sales. Below is a list of the plan levels and what they cost:
- Mini-$15 per month
- Bronze-$35 per month
- Silver-$65 per month
- Gold-$125 per month (considered the best value)
- Platinum-$195 per month
All in all it would seem reasonable to expect to pay no less than $2000 just to get started. I don’t know about you but I just don’t have that kind of money to try something I have no clue about. I’d rather learn how to do it before I even think about sinking that much money into it The idea is to make money not spend money. Am I right? I think I am.
Volusion is for the serious merchant marketer who has money to spend to make money. I don’t think it would be beneficial to beginners. This program is for a person or persons who already have an idea of what an online business entails. A fairly substantial investment is required and they don’t really teach you anything. I think 90% people who wish to develop an online business don’t really have a clue and they need a place to learn the skills.
My final opinion of Volusion
Volusion appears to be legit, and seems to be a good program. They provide everything needed for a store all in one place without having to search the web for all things i.e. SSl certificate, credit card processing plan, web templates, etc. Most of the reviews about this program were positive, however remember nothing is perfect. While everything is provided, the amount of money needed t invest is not an amount that is easily obtained, especially if you have no income. The idea is to have a low overhead. You must also keep in mind, no matter how fancy your store is and all the bells and whistles included, you can’t sell anything if you have no customers. Learning these types of skills are necessary if you want to drive traffic to your website. Keep this thought in mind as we continue to the next topic.
A dynamic alternative!!
Even though Volusion is a legit place to conduct business, it still might not be what you are looking for. Especially if you are just starting out trying to learn about operating an online business. In this case let me broaden your horizons by offering you a viable alternative. Wealthy Affiliate provides an opportunity for beginners and experienced webmasters. The beauty of WA is the fact that there are only two membership plans. Each plan affords the opportunity to earn while you learn. In other words you can start earning while you are still in your free trial. You can’t get that at Volusion. The starter membership costs $O, yes you heard correctly $O. Also the premium membership which is a very affordable $47 with no restrictions and no contracts. You may cancel at any time
So don’t waste any time getting rolling with your free starter membership!! You have nothing to lose, since it’s free and everything to gain. Click here for more information.
