Is Swagbucks a scam or an opportunity?

Is Swagbucks a legit or scam type of  opportunity?

smaller swagbucksSwagbucks is an online rewards website that “pays” the user with virtual currency known as Swag bucks. This virtually currency is “paid” to you in exchange for participating in several different online activities. These include: playing games, taking surveys, shopping, engaging in searches, and what they call discovering.

After you earn your “bucks” you are able to then trade them in for cash from paypal, spend them buying entries to win prizes, retail gift cards and other assorted rewards. Not exactly a cash cow. In order to give this site a proper review, I became a member so I could see for myself what kind of money there was to be made and decide for myself: Is Swagbucks a scam or an opportunity?

Who owns Swagbucks?

Swagbucks website:

Joseph Gorowitz is the founder of Prodege a company which among other things provides digital services such as content distribution platforms and online polling technology platforms. Prodege also owns and operates Swag bucks. In January 2013 Gorowitz appointed Chuck Davis as the executive chairman. So in other words Swag bucks is one company among many.

Everything  we have, everything  we know, everything we love, everything has a positive side and a negative  side. Swagbucks is no different. First let’s look at all the good things about swag bucks.

Quite a few aspects of Swagbucks strike me as positive. For instance: It doesn’t cost anything to join and they “paid” me some swag bucks to fill out my profile. I don’t remember how many.

Since no payment is required to join, a credit card is not required. Big plus.

It’s relatively easy to earn the swag bucks, especially the entries that reward you with between 1 and 5 swag bucks. Takes a long time to earn 1,000 this way.

I particularly like the swag stakes which is like sweepstakes. All you have to do to receive entries is “pay” however many swag bucks is required for an entry. The number of entries you obtain only depends upon the number of swag bucks you have to “spend”. I currently have 44 entries in three different “swagstakes” for a total of 75 swag bucks. Time will tell if I win anything. If I do, I will be sure to let you know.

They also have the variety of categories of prizes you can choose from. Travel, sports and outdoors, music and entertainment, food and drinks, technology, electronics, there is even a category for charitable donations.

All the  “prizes” are only redeemable through the use of gift cards. This is not really negative until you look a little closer, One actual dollar is equal to 100 swag bucks. So if you  cash in 1,000 swag bucks you receive a gift card for $10 that’s it. Do you knoe how long it takes to earn 1,000 swag bucks?

Don’t even get me started with the surveys they direct you to. Participating in online surveys leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I had a seriously horrible experience with online surveys and I wrote about it somewhere here on my website but I can’t seem to locate it. When I find it I’ll let you know.

No real dollars are actually earned yet this is what they advertise. I don’t know about you but I would like to earn actual money.

Some of the games offered are free, but if your score isn’t high enough, no swag bucks are earned. The only way to earn many bucks is to register for one of the games that you have to pay to play and then you have to buy tokens or chips or whatever. Mo money you spend.

As I mentioned above it’s easy to earn the SG’s ( tired of typing swag bucks ) but you only earn a small amount each time. The only way to earn large amounts at a time is to spend money. represented as “shop” on the SG browser bar. Then after you purchase something SG’s can take between 32 – 92 days to be awarded. Also, check out this screenshot on one of their “offers”.  Notice the disclaimer below it.

Have you read their privacy policy?

You know. privacy policies are an essential part of every website that inhabits the internet. In fact it is required by law. Unfortunately not many people take the time to read these when they give up their personal information to a website. While SB guarantees they aren’t selling your personal information they disclaim what other websites  do with the information you provide. Here is an excerpt:

Some of these ad networks may place a persistent cookie on your computer. Doing this allows them to recognize your computer each time they send you an online advertisement. In this way, ad networks may compile information about where you, or others who are using your computer, saw their advertisements and determine which ads are clicked on. This information allows an ad network to deliver targeted advertisements that they believe will be of most interest to you.

So be careful if you enter another website and read the privacy policy

So here’s what I think….

I don’t think SB is a good opportunity to make money. In fact, I think it is a lousy opportunity. I also think it is a ruse to get people who are already spending their life in front of a computer to either spend money or watch advertisements.  I mean seriously who in their right mind would want to get paid in virtual $$$$$?

They aren’t scammish in the sense that they obviously give out these gift cards people “pay” for, but it gets a little shady when you have to buy things and sign up for stuff just to get a bunch of junk e-mail ( which I am already getting thank you very much ) and a buttload of virtual cash if you are lucky. I think if you want to seriously make some actual cash, this is not the way to go about it.

This next part is for those of you who want to earn a serious income

If you are serious about earning an income online, believe me when I tell you the possibilities are limitless. If you know what you are doing. Most people don’t that’s why they search the internet looking for fast and easy ways to make money. Sadly, many get caught up in nefarious, and dastardly schemes or as they like to call them “systems” that are pretty much designed to take your money from you not put it into your pocket. Which is where we all want it to go. Am I right? You know I am. So pay attention while I show you what I’m talking about. First of all check out this video:
